Setting up networking after importing an AWS image

Vietyank asked:

I have imported an AWS image into Virtualbox. It is an Ubuntu 18.04 distro.

In VirtualBox, networking is set to use a bridged adapter. ssh requires a private key, which I have but I do not know the IP address that has been assigned to the interface on the guest.

I tried changing the adapter to use a statically assigned host only adapter but when I tried to ssh, the connection was refused.

I could recreate the image after allowing userid/password login but that is time-consuming.

Is there a way to determine the IP address using Virtualbox?

My answer:

Virtual machine images imported to Amazon AWS need to be configured to obtain their IP address with DHCP. They should not be manually assigned.
